Instrumental Christian Music as Entertainment

Do you think that Contemporary Christian Music as entertainment is ok? What reasoning do you have for thinking it is right or wrong?

My personal beliefs, and not necessarily the church of Christ as a whole's belief, is that it's ok to listen to it. I don't have a problem listening to a radio station with music with a Godly message that uses instruments. My reasoning is this: If we can listen to secular instrumental music, why can't we listen to Christian music? I know that a music coming through a speaker is not 'worship', simply entertainment.

God doesn't give us instructions on how to be entertained. If we can be entertained with songs with questionable meanings, why not instead listen to those having a heavenly meaning.

I have a problem with instrumental music being used in a Church building as entertainment, not because it's necessarily wrong, but because our young people will be influenced, and may not understand the difference between music as worship, and music as entertainment.

This is simply my opinion, and may be right or wrong. You may critique my opinions, or tell me your own opinions.

Even though I don't have a problem with listening to it as an individual, I think I have a problem with the church supporting it. I don't think that youth trips should be scheduled to attend concerts. I don't have a problem with individual's going. Whenever a church supports it though, young minds might get the idea that it's ok. But, if a youth group were to attend such an event, I think that something needs to be said about how this is entertainment, and not worship. Even though the band may call it worship, it is not an approved form of worship.

The bible tells us to "[speak] to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:19).

So, the bible doesn't say anything against instruments, so why is it wrong? In Leviticus 10:1-2, it explains the sons of Aaron, worshipping the Lord in a way that was not commanded: "Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD."

I was wondering about instrumental music in worship. I thought that it would be bad to forbid it if the bible doesn't forbid it, but that Leviticus 10 you mentioned showed me that God doesn't wan't any praise to be given to Him other than what He asks for.

God Gave us a blueprint of Exactly what He wants nothing more nothing less and we have the materials listed also and that's what He wants, if you give Him something outside of that blue print how can you expect Him to accept it?
