Biblical Steps to Being Saved

These are foundational beliefs in the church, and are all scripturally commanded in the verses that are listed here.

Hear: Romans 10:17

Reading and/or hearing the word is a requirement, or else, you wouldn't realize that you were lost in the first place. This is kind of a given, because without hearing, one would not know that they were lost.

Believe: Romans 10:17; Luke 8:13; John 1:12; John 8:24; John 20:31

You must believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Without belief in Christ, your faith is useless, and Paul tells us that we are to be pittied (1 Corinthians 15:19-20).

Repent: Luke 13:3,5; Acts 3:19

Repenting is the action of turning from your ways of sinfulness, and turning to God. Christ said, "...whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it" (Mark 8:35).

Confess: Luke 12:8; Romans 10:9; 1 John 4:15; Acts 8:37

You must confess your belief that Christ truly is the son of God before others.

Luke 12:8-9 - "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God."

Be Baptized: John 3:5; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21; Galatians 3:27

Being baptized, in the meaning of the word, means to be fully immersed, or fully under water. All examples in the Bible are of immersion, and we follow that example.

Remain Faithful: Revelation 2:10; 1 Timothy 4:16; 1 John 2:24,25

The bible never supports the idea of remaining saved after being saved the first time. The bible does not support the idea of "once saved, always saved" and we do not practice it as such.

1 John 1:6-7 - "If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
